The Fires

We interrupt our regularly scheduled event of The Capt'n boasting about her latest, maddest ride to say:
Jesus christ, AGAIN with the fires?
It's a really bad scene here in SoCal for many sentient beings. One person dead already, thousands and thousands evacuated, hundreds have lost their houses, and who only knows how many wild animals are either in trouble or have met their unfortunate ends?
It's supposed to get worse in the next couple of days before it gets better.
But we are among the lucky; neither the Los Angeles nor San Diego offices of Team Shredder have lost power, let alone burnt to the fucking ground. We, unlike many others, don't appear to be in harm's way.

Comments:
I can't handle hearing about the fleet of deer getting trapped, and seeing the trailer home engulfed in flames on the news was particularly hard to take.

what about the houseboat? for safety
(and fishing)
miss u especial today-hate to hear you unnerved even for a minute

Flamin' socal...again
Hi capt'n.
How are you? I'm back.
Are you in SD?

Oh Hi ACN, you're back! I'm in LA. We should hook up, yeah? Then you can tell me all about it. Hool's driving up tp her dad's today and I'm around till Fri. AM (unless all of my SD clients cancel...)
calling? Loving.

So another update is the big fire on the open range of Camp Pendleton, right at San Onofre, the greatest surf spot ever. Sort of around where it says, "dust" in the picture. What nobody is mentioning in the news is how there is a nuclear power plant right there on the beach, near the fire. Not to bum out on a negative trip, but it does make one wonder.

Aw geez Capt'n, you have made me think of the animals, which never crossed my mind. So sad. I hate hearing about the % of homes owned by celebrities on the news...as if they are the only folks that matter.
I am glad you and the misses are safe.

Peeds, after careful consideration and worry, I think the animals, they have a better sense than us of "heads up." They know, they feel it coming, and they get the fuck out, unlike the David Duchovny types of Malibu, who I most certainly do not cry for. I heard a thing on the radio tonight about "the scene" at the stadium in San Diego, where evacuated people and their animals are staying. There are TONS of resources, it sounds like, for example: food, water, beds, volunteer medical staff, free massage, acupuncture, clowns, jugglers, mimes, face painting for "the children," wifi/internet, animal handlers and vets, insurance companies and FEMA and whoever else ready to, in one sitting, get people rolling towards reimbursement for whatever, the whole deal.
I conclude that it pays to live in a rich area. It does not seem to pay to be poor or to live in a poor area. I don't mean to be all preachy, but it does feel obscene and filthy that San Diego got in 2 days what New Orleans still hasn't gotten in 2 years.
