Capt'n's Log

Subject: Two triumphs in one day

In chronological order, the first being Sea Monkey's return to the sea. Back in the saddle, she rode high atop the Snow Pony like a monkey on a surfboard at dusk's last stand. Although the water was freezing, she sternly reminded me of Rule #76: No excuses, and play like a champion. And play like a champion she did, I'll tell you what, she got out there and she got it done. It was like she'd never left, that was how comfortable she looked under the waves.
Number two was Mrs. The Capt'n's concert, where she brought a whole new, confident interpretation to Phillippe Manoury's En Echo for voice and computer. New life was breathed into this piece, lives were changed. Words that came to mind were: tender, moody, romantic, shapes & textures, worldly saint. She made me want to be a painter again, made Sea Monkey want to write.

This is all very exciting. There is a buzz in the air about new musics we are introducing each other to. Please post more about what you and Mrs. Capt'n know. She sounds fascinating. My uncle is an opera singer in Canada. I wish I could remember more of one of his recent performances as in the name of the composer, but all I know was that he was painted blue and almost nude in a woods scene. I want to know more about music for voice and anything. Please share.

Thanks,

MM

I know this may be intrusive but upon digging into your blog, is Mrs. the Captn the Oberlin lady? Just asking because my sister in law who is a cellist and Robert Spano were there at the same time and I am wondering if there are more connections to be gleaned. Excuse my forthrightness. You are in no way required to answer. You see I just get very excited about things.

Your Mrs. is younger than the ones I am thinking of. Robert Spano is older, is now a conductor. Anyway. Bonds!!! I know!!!! We are both from Philadelphia (so is Ham Paw who used to post on artistic thoughts and so is Post Modern Debunker a.k.a. PD). And it turns out that Gree C. Hair knew people who were in a youth orchestra when I was. Nuts. Makes me feel better about blogging. I should be too busy to blog but am not. People often ask "how do you have time for this?" And I know what they are thinking - you are a freak and maybe you have too much time on your hands but listen up - some people need to blog. They just do. I used to write in journals, I used to write and publish art criticism but all that has gone by the wayside. I still make art but my blog is my art too!!!! LET'S FEEL GOOD ABOUT BLOGGING!!!!!! BLOGGING IS NOT JUST FOR LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK. Capt'n I feel great to have met another interesting soul in the ether.

Top of the Evenin' to you.

Back at ya, MM. And yes, we feel good about blogging, we love it, we own it! I admit to having moments of wondering what my problem was, but those moments were fleeting and ultimately a waste of time.
